Welcome to the NOVA NeuroIntegrative Medicine, located in the middle of McLean, and serving Fairfax, Arlington and Loudoun Counties, northern Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia with eeg neurotherapy (neurofeedback) and biomedical workups for brain-body issues since 2005.
The brain is the most complex organ in the human body. A typical adult brain has 100-200 billion neurons (brain cells) with 100 trillion synapses (cell connection and communication sites). The potential for the brain to behave unhealthily at some point in our lives is over 50%. Sometimes brain problems can be resolved with routine medical testing and medications. However, integrative or complementary medical techniques may be helpful in achieving better symptom control and higher levels of function.
Integrative medicine can help treat many different conditions that involve regulation by the brain. These can include: attention problems (ADD/ADHD), behavior disorders, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, headaches, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), bipolar illness, chronic pain, epilepsy and seizures, autistic spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, reactive attachment disorder, brain injury, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, eating disorders, learning disabilities, obsessive-compulsive problems (OCD), and recovery from strokes or other brain insults.
In addition, our treatment can enhance neuroregulation of chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension (HTN), asthma, gastroesophageal reflux syndrome (GERD or heartburn), irritable bowel syndrome, and circulatory problems. This can result in better control over symptoms and disease progression.
The brain-body connection is essential for fulfilling our greatest potential. Integrative medicine helps patients develop and maximize health habits that encourage brain performance. We support the brain health principles promoted by Daniel Amen, MD of The Amen Clinics.
Many types of brain-oriented intervention can be helpful in stimulating the brain to work in more positive ways. We aid our patients in identifying the modalities that may help them the most. We have found that neurotherapy or EEG neurofeedback is frequently an excellent starting point for improving brain performance. Neurotherapy relies on computers and specially designed software to help adults and children train themselves from their usual brain activity patterns to those that are more appropriate. These new patterns translate into improvements in behavior, perception, and emotion wellbeing in everyday life. The video "What is Neurofeedback" explains and demonstrates the technique of neurofeedback. By evaluating the brain with help from advanced technology, we work with our patients to help them better understand their symptoms. We show them how to use the natural plasticity of the nervous system to best cope with new ailments and chronic challenges.
Peak performance training can help other clients improve their functioning in their job, their sports, their artistic performances, and many other facets of their lives through improved brain awareness.
NOVA NeuroIntegrative Medicine, PLC is committed to helping patients live healthier lives. Our professionalism, understanding, and support are individually tailored to address the specific situation of each of our clients.
